Southbound

South Bound Review is an English-language weekly web magazine and an enterprise of the Living Tamil Literary Organization. It is dedicated to presenting modern South Indian literature to a global readership.

Starting

South Bound Review was organized by the Living Tamil Literary Organization. It is based in Chennai, and its first issue was published on 27 September 2026.

The organization

South Bound Review has an editorial board. G.S.S.V. Navin is the General Editor of the magazine, and Kanchi Siva is the Executive Editor. The editorial board includes T.A. Pari, Danya Ramesh, Sabareesh Kumar, Jyoshitaa M.L., Megana Kumar, Sahana Kumar, Venu Vetrayan, and Sharmila Raju.

The Motto

South Bound Review is a response to a historical urgency. Modern literature in South Indian languages, particularly Tamil, has received little support from government bodies, cultural organizations, or educational institutions. Political parties promote their own writing as literature, while pulp fiction enjoys widespread popularity among the public.

For more than a hundred years, modern literature in Tamil has largely been published in little magazines. As a result, it has reached only a few thousand readers and remains largely unknown in the Indian literary mainstream.

South Bound Review aims to address this gap by presenting modern Tamil literature, along with literature from other South Indian languages, to readers across India and around the world.

The content

South Bound Review presents a profile of an author every month. It publishes fiction, poetry, literary criticism, and book reviews. The magazine also features regular columns and film discussions, along with an academic section devoted to cultural studies. However, South Bound Review does not publish political discussions.
